Let’s Look Back

Via Sundry:

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

I moved to a totally new city all by myself.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Um, probably not. Surprisingly, I did not list “get a new job” as one of my goals for this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No one close to me died, but several people I knew did.

5. What countries did you visit?

None this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

A boyfriend…shall I be so bold as to admit that?

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I guess August 14 because that’s when I moved to Phoenix.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

It’s a tie between moving to a new city all by myself and getting a new job. I’m pretty proud of myself for both of them.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Getting on the exercise bandwagon, and then getting off. Bummer. Here’s hoping for 2008?

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing major.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My first Christmas tree

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Is it narcissistic of me to say my own? Well, that’s my answer. The reason is that I did several things this year that have stretched me; I have taken big steps, and I mostly didn’t even know it. Is it too soon to say that perhaps I am becoming less fearful?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

The world in general

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent. I wish I’d saved more when I was living at home. Alas…

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

My new job really excites me. Everyday I think at least once, “I can’t believe this is my job.”

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

There isn’t really one. None stick out in my mind.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier; the anti-depressants are still working well and I’ve healed more from 2006.

b) thinner or fatter? Unfortunately, the same, despite my exercise regimen. Grrr.

c) richer or poorer? Technically poorer, but I love my life more so it doesn’t matter that much.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Eating better. Darn sweet tooth.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Less stressing about money.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With my family in California. It was great to be able to go home for Christmas even though it was a short visit.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Not yet, but perhaps.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

The Office
and Kitchen Nightmares

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

No. My life isn’t that dramatic.

24. What was the best book you read?

Wow, that’s a hard question.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

It was more like the year of the podcast for me.

26. What did you want and get?

A new job…hallelujah!

27. What did you want and not get?

I don’t know…$1,000,000?

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

How clichéd am I…Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 25 and I went out to dinner with my family and friends

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I wanted to write that finding my job sooner would have made the year more satisfying, but now that I look back on it, I think the timing was fine.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

As always, jeans and a t-shirt.

32. What kept you sane?

My friends and anti-depressants. Both, literally.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I really have lost touch with reality when it comes to celebrities and public figures.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

Political issue…that would require that I paid attention, and I currently am drawing a blank. I’ll blame it on the cold I have.

35. Who did you miss?

My family and friends back in California.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

She isn’t really a new person to me, but Amy, the daughter of my parents’ friends here in AZ is my age, and though we’ve known each other our whole lives, it’s only been since I moved here that I’ve really gotten to know her.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.

Something that is continually sinking in for me is appreciating the people I have in my life, letting them know how much I appreciate them and love them. I know that I savor moments with family and friends more. I don’t think this is a new thing for this year, but one that is getting deeper.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
“But tension is to be loved
When it is like a passing note
To a beautiful, beautiful chord.”
